Playing bridge on a computer isn’t as much fun as playing at a club, but for now, it’s all we have. We are therefore delighted to announce that our club, in partnership with the Westwood Bridge Club and Cape Cod clubs, is hosting online bridge games.

Puritan/Westwood/Cape “Virtual Club Games” are just for players who have played at one or both of our clubs at least once in 2019 or 2020.

These games are 18 boards and take about two hours. Masterpoint awards (black) are now 50% higher than regular club games. The fee is $6, a portion of which goes back to our club.
There is a 499er game on Mondays & Thursdays, and there are plans for 299er games.

After you log in to BBO, the top half of the screen offers free events and the bottom half cost BBO$. Purchase BBO$ by clicking the little box in the upper right, where it says BBO$, then
via credit card, buy as much as you want.
If You Know Your Way Around BBO,
Registration opens two hours before game time.
Best to register early, especially the first time.
  • On the BBO Home page, click Competitive then ACBL Virtual Clubs, then click ACBL—North America.
  • Type "wes" or "pur" in the Search box, and you should see our game.
  • Anyone who played at Westwood or Puritan in 2019 or 2020 is eligible, but some names may be missing from the eligibility list. If you have trouble registering, please contact Tim Hill by text or voice (781-929-7673), by email <thill75@wesleyan.edu>, or by BBO message to “VACB119172”.
  • Be sure you’re back logged into BBO a few minutes before game time.
If You’re Not Familiar With Bridge Base Online, go to this 38-minute comprehensive tutorial by Silvana Morici. It's a good starting place.
When you’re ready to dive in, first register:
  • Go to bridgebase.com
  • click Login / Register
  • click Become a member (free!)
  • be sure to enter your ACBL number
Play is quite intuitive, but you might benefit from these tutorials and a little Solitaire or Casual play to learn the ropes.
Play games in the top half first to get used to the concept. It’s actually quite easy - the main difference being here you self-alert instead of your partner alerting your bid.

Results are available on BBO, on Westwood’s BridgeWebs site, on ACBLLive For Clubs, and on The Common Game site. Each of these has pluses and minuses while everyone scrambles to adapt.
Masterpoint awards for Virtual Club Games were increased by 50% effective April 15, but at this time, only the results on ACBLLive and The Common Game correctly reflect these increases.
